ABOUT US

About Kharaa

Kharaa, a word that carries the weight of authenticity, of something real, something true. It is this spirit that drives everything we do.

We are a platform born from a deep reverence for India's living textile heritage. We work directly with the artisans to bring you crafts that are made the way they should be — handcrafted in small batches.

Kharaa is for those who believe that what we wear and what we bring into our homes should carry meaning — should be kharaa, true.

We invite you to explore, to ask questions, to learn the names of the artisans and the villages behind your purchase. Every thread has a story. We are here to tell it.

Welcome to Kharaa. Welcome to something real.

Our Story

In a world of fast fashion and mass production, many of India’s beautiful textile traditions are slowly being forgotten.

Crafts that once carried generations of history, identity, and artistry are today losing their space — replaced by machine-made imitations and changing consumer habits. Behind every fading craft is not just a technique disappearing, but the stories, skills, and livelihoods of artisan communities that have preserved them for centuries.

Kharaa was born in April 2024 from the desire to change that.

Founded by Krutika Chauhan, Kharaa began with a simple vision — to bring back the value of authentic Indian craftsmanship and create a deeper appreciation for the textiles woven into our culture.

We're currently working with 10 craft clusters across 5 states in India.

Meet The Founder

For Krutika, the journey towards Kharaa began long before the brand itself.

Growing up, she was always fascinated by her mother’s handcrafted sarees — the richness of the fabrics, the intricate details, and their timelessness. What began as admiration slowly grew into a deep appreciation for India’s textile heritage.

But alongside this beauty came a harsh reality: many authentic Indian crafts were slowly being forgotten in the rise of fast fashion and mass-produced alternatives.

Coming from a professional background as a Chartered Accountant, Krutika chose to step away from a conventional path to build something rooted in culture, craftsmanship, and meaning.

And that became the foundation of Kharaa.

People Behind Us

Kharaa is built on the skill and dedication of our artisans and weavers. Their craft, passed down through generations, brings our textiles to life. Kharaa is not just a brand – it’s a community that thrives on the passion and craftsmanship of the hands behind each product.
